Amsterdam Eetcafe
If you find yourself in the Leidseplein district and want to avoid the tourist restaurants of all flavours, from Curries to Argentinian grills, try the only authentic Dutch Eetcafe we managed to find in the area, Kop Van Jut. Located in the cross-roads of the Leidsekruisstraat, at number 24. Authentic Dutch style with traditional wooden interiors and cosy ambiance, friendly local staff and authentic house beer - it makes a change from the famous Heineken - and the food is great too. Try the Dutch pepper-steak which comes with homemade fries and salad (to ease your conscience!).
The interior of this restaurant/eetcafe is typically Dutch, with the wooden panelling and furniture. Adding to the cosiness is the small size of this place, with the kitchen fully-visible at the rear, so you can hear the banter of the chef and staff as they serve up your food. Great friendly staff. This eetcafe is a breath of fresh Dutch air in an area mostly stuffed with eating houses that offer anything but Dutch food.If you want more information about the Kop Van Jut restaurant or the area, they have a website at www.kopvanjut.com.
