During a short break in Istanbul, two SSA's members had the pleasure to stay at the Lotus Suite in Beyoglu and to review it personally. The Lotus Suite is part of a restored building exclusively dedicated to apartment rentals for short stays. The area is called Beyoglu and it is located in the European side of Istanbul; this is an international home for tourists, expats and students from all over the world, but also a great place to savoir the modern face of Turkey and the local culture without the hassle of gadget shops or other tourist traps.

We have decided to focus on the more obscure exhibition scene in this post: The Suñol Foundation, which is showing an small collection entitled 'Dialogues' with art items ranging from re-known artists such as Salvador Dalí and Joan Miró. The exhibition aims to highlight concept shifts that occurred during the 20th century using a series of combined works from these artists and more. The Suñol Foundation is a private, non-profit organisation with a collection of contemporary and avant-garde pieces. Exhibit runs until 3rd October 2009.

Currently under the name "The Masterpieces", the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam is exhibiting great works of art from the Dutch Golden Age of the 17th Century. Although currently under renovation, many of the great works can still be seen, including Rembrandts famous "The Night Watch". Other Dutch masters represented are Jan Vermeer and Frans Hals. There is also a fine collection of Doll's houses, Delft porcelein and gilt-work. Due to renovation the exhibition is relatively small and you should be able to get through it in under four hours. The museum is open daily from 10.00 until 18.00.
